Georg Hanke has been working at the JRC since 1995. He is a chemist, with a Ph.D. in marine chemistry performed at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute in Bremerhaven, Germany. In the past decade he has been working on the chemical monitoring under the Water Framework Directive and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, coordinating the related research work, the drafting of guidance documents and co-leader of working groups preparing the implementation of chemical monitoring in European waters.
