Engaged For Ocean
President
Thomas Capiten, born in 1988 in the picturesque region of Cherbourg, Normandy, has dedicated his life to protecting and understanding our oceans. From a young age, Thomas was captivated by the sea, spending countless hours exploring the rocky coastlines and sandy beaches of the Manche.
In 2010, Thomas founded his first company in Casablanca, working in industrial trade across Africa. It was during this time, especially after becoming a father, that he became acutely aware of the environmental impacts of his work. This realization spurred him to pivot towards his true passion: ocean conservation.
In 2019, inspired by legendary figures like Captain Nemo and explorer Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, Thomas established Thalas Océan, an NGO focused on marine protection through oceanographic expeditions and public awareness initiatives. His commitment to preserving marine ecosystems led him to launch Engaged For Ocean in 2023, an innovative international environmental label. This initiative encourages businesses to contribute to ocean conservation by voluntarily increasing their tariffs by 1%, funding impactful marine projects overseen by an independent scientific committee led by Catherine Chabaud.
Thomas's efforts have gained significant recognition, including the award-winning documentary "Héros de la Méditerranée Française", which highlights the critical importance of marine conservation and showcases inspiring stories of those dedicated to protecting our seas. This film has amplified his message and reached a wider audience, furthering his impact on ocean preservation.
Culminating in his appointment as a European Climate Pact Ambassador, Thomas bridges the European Commission, the European Climate Pact Secretariat, EC Representations, and European citizens, promoting robust climate actions and fostering collaboration across various sectors.
Currently, Engaged For Ocean is expanding its reach with deployments in Canada, Switzerland, Polynesia, and Singapore, demonstrating Thomas's unwavering commitment to global ocean conservation. As the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) 2025 in Nice approaches, Thomas is focused on forging strategic partnerships to amplify the impact of his initiatives and position France as a leader in marine ecological innovation.
Thomas Capiten continues to inspire and drive positive change, believing firmly that collective action can ensure a sustainable future for our oceans and the planet.
