Head of Ocean & Climate

Fabien Lefèvre holds an engineering degree in Hydraulics and Water Resources (1996) from the National Hydraulic Engineering School of Grenoble and a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography (2000) from the University Paul Sabatier of Toulouse. He began his career at the French Navy’s oceanographic service (EPSHOM) and later joined CLS in 1997, where he pursued his Ph.D. in collaboration with CNRS. Returning to CLS in 2000, he developed expertise in oceanographic applications using satellite, in-situ, and numerical model data. In 2010, he became Head of the Applications and Services Team at CLS, overseeing a group of engineers and oceanographers working across various sectors, including fisheries, offshore energy, and environmental services. From 2014 to 2019, he held senior management roles in large and integrated projects, focusing on environmental surveillance, maritime security, and sustainable marine resource management, primarily in international markets. Since 2019, Fabien leads the Ocean and Climate Division within CLS's Environment and Climate Unit. He manages a team of 30 and oversees the development of innovative oceanographic services using satellite data, AI, numerical models, and in situ observations for scientific, institutional, and industrial applications.
