This session aims to facilitate a multi-stakeholder dialogue on the evolving, interdependend relationship between climate change and the ocean. With contributions from leading voices in science, diplomacy, civil society, and youth engagement, the session will explore the profound and accelerating changes in the ocean driven by anthropogenic climate change, including the decline of the cryosphere, ocean warming, acidification, shifts in circulation, and disruptions to ecological and biogeochemical processes.
Experts and institutional leaders will share the latest advancements in ocean observations and modeling tools. Additionally, the session will highlight actionable, scalable solutions to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14, focusing on ocean-based climate adaptation strategies, the role of digital technologies, nature-positive economic models, and the strengthening of science-policy interfaces across governance levels. Insights from the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, research institutions, and small island states will emphasize collaborative pathways and equity. By bringing together a broad coalition of stakeholders and knowledge holders, this session seeks to reaffirm the ocean’s central role in global climate governance, multilateral cooperation, and long-term resilience.
